Pre-Primary School Teacher

As a pre- primary school teacher you will work with children from 3 years to 5 years helping them to explore and acquire basic knowledge through play and fun activities.

What do Pre-primary School Teachers do?

The main duty of a pre-primary school teacher is to provide a safe learning environment to help the children explore, learn new things and enjoy new experiences away from home. The teacher would plan and monitor work and play activities of the children and help them develop and improve various skills and abilities.

What does a typical day at work involve?

How to become a Pre-primary School Teacher

Step 1
Take any stream at the plus 2

Taking any stream would make you eligible for the career. There is no requirement to take any specific stream.

Step 2
Take Certificate/ Diploma in Nursery teacher training

This is a 1 year course. Passing Secondary school (Class 10) would also make you eligible for this program.

Note :
  • You can also take up a Bachelor's of Nursery education (B Ed -Nursery Education) after taking a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Pre-primary Teachers Training is another program that can be taken up
  • Planning and conducting outdoor activities, field trips, games to give them exposure to the world

India (from Symbiosis for Online PGDPTT)

  • Bachelor degree in any subject from a recognised institution.

Foreign (from University College London for Early Years Initial Teacher Training)

  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum overall CGPA of 6.75/10
  • IELTS : Overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests.
  • TOEFL iBT :Overall score of 100 with 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening.

Taking care of the children, handling all their activities and keeping them safe from harmful situations need strong supervisory skills of the teacher
