As an atmospheric scientist, you will study the earth's atmosphere, climate and weather in order to understand air pollution, drought, loss of the ozone layer, and other problems related to the atmosphere.

Atmospheric scientists study the atmosphere, changes in the climatic conditions, and weather variations. They use advanced instruments like weather balloons, radar systems, satellites, and sensors to monitor the weather and collect data for their analyses.

How to become an atmospheric scientist?

Step 1
Take Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

Studying Physics, Chemistry and Maths at the 10+2 level and securing a minimum score in these subjects would be a prerequisite for admission into atmospheric sciences/meteorological courses.

Step 2
Take BSc in any discipline with Physics and Mathematics

Candidates who wish to pursue a career in atmospheric sciences can opt for a BSc in any discipline with physics and mathematics as primary subjects at the graduate level and then go for this particular specialisation at postgraduate level.

Step 3
Take MSc/Mtech in Atmospheric Science/ Meteorology

After completing BSc/BTech with physics and mathematics, you can either go for a 2 year MSc/MTech in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology and then to the doctoral level.

Step 4
Take PhD

Candidates should possess MSc/MTech in Physical Sciences/ Mathematical Sciences/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Oceanic Sciences (with Mathematics as a subject at the bachelor's level) to apply for a doctoral program in atmospheric sciences.
